Nieuwer Amstel, Netherlands, 1959.
Her work includes painting, sculpture, photography and cinema. She is internationally recognized for her sculptures, photos and loop short films, combined with extraordinary mastery. She uses simple mechanical techniques, as repetition, reflections or changes on the spotlight. She plays with drastic scale changes, rhythmic repetitions, unfolding and surprising juxtapositions in order to catch our glance. Her vision of the world is brilliant, and she manipulates the images with simple techniques. Shows the world that surround us as an unexpected source of inspiration. Daily routines and the observation of normal things are the main source of her work.
She depicts the smallest moments of life. She has an open perspective which invites the beholder to see the world on a different way. The most important thing is the simple and ingenuous beauty.
In 1992 she received the Rome Award, and in 2010 the Frieze Art Fair.
Her work is showed at Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, Stedelijk Museum in Ámsterdam, Centre Pompidou in París, Castello di Rivoli in Turín, Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, Musée d´Art Contemporain in Maseille, the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo, the ICA of Boston, Konsthall of Malmö, the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunsten, the CCA in Japan and the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
She has participated in the biennials of Venice, Sydney, Berlin and Kwangju and at the Documenta X of Kassel.
